Ours is a strange generation

Ours is a strange generation

We know so much and we’re quick to preach,
yet get offended by others’ free speech.
We shout to ourselves positive affirmations
being well aware of our desperate situation.
Ours is a strange generation.

We value confidence more than capability,
as if by promises alone will emerge a reality.
Our rebellion is limited to online discussions.
With likes and tweets, we expect revolutions.
Ours is a strange generation.

Millions are paid to people who pass orders.
But penniless stays who tends earth and water.
We create so little, yet crave recognition.
We hide menial jobs under grand designations.
Ours is a strange generation.

Our sympathy extends to only four walls.
Climate’s just for debate, far off are wars.
Blissfully unaware of our own delusions,
we pray for others to gain a realization.
Ours is a strange generation.

We search for God in books and retreats.
Our thoughts are spiritual but not our deeds.
We crave to experience loving relations
but build them all on practical foundations.
Ours is a strange generation…
Ours is a strange generation.
